The Buddha's life story is a universal tale of the awakening of consciousness.
The founder of Buddhism was a prince named Siddhartha Gautama, born in the sixth century B.C. in what is now Nepal. He had a sheltered life at court as the only son of the king, with an extraordinary life path acted out in a journey of discovery. His goal was to overcome suffering and death—and he actually did it, even in that moment under the Bodhi Tree when he attained Enlightenment and became the Buddha, "The Awakened One." Thereafter he devoted his life to teaching others the way to experience this awakening and liberation from the wheel of suffering.

This is a modernized history, filled with stories of wisdom and amazement, and offers one-of-a-kind inspiration and insight to spiritual seekers of all traditions.

Sherab Chodzin Kohn has been teaching Buddhism and meditation worldwide since 1975. A close student of the Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa, he has edited a number of his teacher's books. A native of Chicago, he now lives in Nova Scotia, Canada.
